The Vision

TaiPow: Age of Discovery is a Classic-Progression Custom evolution of Norrath. Our mission is to preserve the soul of the golden era while weaving a brand-new tapestry of adventure over the world you know. We currently focus on the most iconic eras of the game: Classic through Planes of Power.

This is a world designed for the modern adventurer who still craves that "New World" feeling. Whether you are a solo traveler, a two-boxer, or a small group of friends, our world is balanced for Duo-Play (2 players, each utilizing 2 bots). You will find meticulously hand-crafted quests and custom mobs that challenge veterans in new, unexpected ways without losing the classic atmosphere.

The Age of Discovery

Imagine stepping into Norrath without a wiki to tell you where every NPC stands, how hard they hit, or exactly what lies in their pockets. In TaiPow, we are restoring the mystery of the unknown.

  • Uncharted Encounters: We have breathed new life into classic zones with custom NPCs, encounters, and bosses that stay true to the original EQ aesthetic.
  • Forgotten Lore: Discover new stories and quests that build upon and continue existing Norrathian history rather than replacing it.
  • Hidden Treasures: Rare, custom items and artifacts await those brave enough to explore the corners of the world that others have long since memorized.
  • No Spoilers: Without a massive wiki laying out every detail, you have a genuine chance to be the first to discover a new secret in an old world.

Dynamic Encounter Scaling

We believe that no content should be "locked" behind massive raid attendance requirements. To ensure the entire world remains accessible to our small-group community, we have engineered a massive shift in how you experience encounters.

  • Duo-Friendly Design: The world (from deep dungeons to the highest planes) is balanced for two players utilizing two bots per character. While high-end raid content is tuned for this small-group approach, some legendary encounters may still require finding friends to overcome.
  • Adaptive Stats: Our customized engine allows us to adjust NPC power, toughness, and stats dynamically. We can make these changes by era, by zone, or even by individual named NPCs!
  • Accessible End-Game: Challenge end-game content with your small group. This system allows for precision balancing on the fly to ensure challenges feel rewarding, fair, and epic.

1. Create Your Identity

Before stepping into Norrath, you must secure your credentials within the wider EQEmulator ecosystem. This allows you to access a variety of community tools and the global server list.

  1. Register: Create a Master Account at EQEmulator.org. This serves as your portal for all server interactions.
  2. LS Accounts: Once logged into the website, navigate to the "Login Server Accounts" section in your User Control Panel.
  3. In-Game Account: Create a unique Login Server Name and Password. This is the specific information you will type into the EverQuest client to log into TaiPow: Age of Discovery.

2. Installation & Required Files

To ensure total compatibility with our custom world, we utilize the Rain of Fear 2 (RoF2) client. You must provide your own copy. While the client provides the engine, our custom content will provide the soul.

The TaiPow Essentials (V3)

Our custom patcher pack is mandatory. Without these files, you will experience missing items, invisible spells, or client crashes in custom tuned zones.

  • Custom Spells: Includes data for our unique mob abilities, player buffs, and flavor-boosting caster enhancements.
  • Zone Fixes: Restores legacy geometry to zones like the Bazaar and Nektulos to prevent falling through the world.
  • Connectivity: Pre-configured eqhost.txt to point you straight to the EQEmu gateway.

Installation: Simply extract the contents of the TaiPow Zip directly into your main EverQuest folder. When the operating system asks to "Replace all files," confirm the action.

3. Configure & Launch

EverQuest is an old game that requires specific launch parameters to function correctly on modern hardware and private servers.

Option A: Automated Launch (Recommended)

Inside your folder, we have included a file named Launch TaiPow.bat. This script executes the game with the necessary permissions and bypasses the standard patcher which can sometimes corrupt custom files.

Option B: Manual Shortcut

If you prefer a standard shortcut, create one for eqgame.exe, right-click it, select Properties, and add patchme to the end of the Target field.

4. Find the Server

Launch the game and log in with your credentials. On the Server Select screen, look for our name in the official list:

5. Important Technical Fixes

To prevent "falling through the world" or client crashes in The Bazaar, Nektulos, Lavastorm, and Arena, you must disable the revamped map files included with modern clients.

The Easy Method:

After extracting TaiPow Files V3, locate and run zonefix.bat. This script renames the conflicting files and moves them to a /bak folder. Since V3 includes the classic Bazaar files, this will instantly fix any Bazaar crashes.

The Manual Method:

If you prefer to do it yourself, you must move these files out of your main directory and into a backup folder. Just renaming them may not stop the RoF2 client from crashing.

  • Bazaar Fix: bazaar.eqg, bazaar_assets.txt
  • Nektulos Fix: nektulos.eqg, Nektulos_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
  • Lavastorm Fix: lavastorm.eqg
  • Arena Fix: arena.eqg, arena_EnvironmentEmitters.txt

Success: Once the .eqg files are moved, the client will use the legacy .s3d files included in your V3 download, and the Bazaar will function correctly.
